Cindy Delainey Talks Overcoming Cancer, Healing & Giving Back

When Cindy Delainey was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer in fall 2019, she was shocked by the news. As a local entrepreneur, Delainey was working long hours and pouring herself into projects. But being diagnosed with cancer was something that she says was a call from the universe, leading her on a beautiful journey of spiritual and personal healing.
“When they first told me about the cancer, I didn’t want to believe it. Based on statistics, thyroid cancer is one of the easiest to cure, but it doesn’t matter what type of cancer you have. If you hear you have cancer, you feel numb,” she says.
Delainey loves to keep busy, but being diagnosed with cancer forced her to take a step back and focus on herself. “I am a control freak, so it was really hard for me both spiritually and as an entrepreneur. I was that person who went into my shop the day after surgery. I think for me it was a moment where the universe was saying, ‘Cindy, stop. You need to relax.’ ”
Born in the Philippines, Delainey has lived most of her life in Saskatoon and is the owner of A&C Detail and Residential Cleaning, which celebrated its 10th year in 2019. She is also looking forward to starting a new business venture and opening a wellness sanctuary and retreat centre, inspired by her best friend Ryan Giesinger. Since holistic healing played such an important role in her journey, she wants to be able to give others that same opportunity, providing a space for everyone to be themselves.
“When I was diagnosed, I started seeking resources beyond western medicine. I worked with a Reiki practitioner, who did a log of energy clearing, and I also worked with a psychic, who noticed that my throat chakra was blocked — which is crazy because she didn’t know anything about my thyroid cancer! Working with them, I was able to learn to let go of negative feelings and thoughts.”
As a Certified Angel Oracle Card Reader and a Reiki Master Practitioner, Delainey is grateful to have the chance to share her knowledge. She’s also working on her Reiki Master Teacher certification and loves to take the opportunity to give back whenever she can through charity work. With the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked to support the local community by providing free sanitary services for healthcare workers.
Today, Delainey is happy to report she’s cancer-free, and says the experience drove her to be stronger. “You can’t control everything. There are some things you need to let go of. Cancer may be a scary experience; however, to me it was a blessing in disguise. I’ve used my experience to help uplift, teach and walk with others through their journey.”
Specializing in fashion and beauty photography, Nicole’s work is polished, feminine, and has a modern contemporary vibe.
