COVID-19 has decimated the global economy and caused enormous stress to business owners large and small. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel; there is a plan to Re-Open Saskatchewan and maybe, just maybe, we can begin to put COVID-19 behind us and begin the Post-COVID-19 period.

Over the past number of weeks, the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce has been running the #yqrtogetherwestand campaign, which has asked residents within the community to support community businesses. The impetus for the campaign centered around the reality that a big part of the economic solution will be the community supporting the community through the most devastating time since the Great Depression. The campaign encouraged residents to support local restaurants by ordering in, using pick up or a drive-thru. It asked citizens to support businesses by purchasing gift cards, scheduling services for later and the list goes on as outlined on reginachamber.com.

The Government of Saskatchewan noticed the campaign and began discussions about a province-wide campaign which culminated in $1 million being provided to the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce to take the campaign province-wide. The new campaign #togetherwestandsk aims to encourage citizens and businesses alike to support local businesses within respective communities as well as within the province. The campaign will run for 11 months and will launch in mid-May and end March 31, 2021.

Phase 2 of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan will begin on May 19, 2020 and will include a vast array of businesses including retail, stylists and the list goes on. We encourage the people of Saskatchewan to support businesses within their respective communities and within the province. There has never been a time where Saskatchewan businesses have needed the support of communities more than right now.

There are many ways to support Saskatchewan businesses including:

Safely purchase products or services at the business

Order Saskatchewan products or services online

Purchase gift cards

Schedule a service

Continue to support restaurants with pick up, delivery or drive thru where applicable

Continue to pay for your local gym membership, or music lessons or other lessons

Invest in a project you have longed to do

#togetherwestandsk will be a fluid campaign that will respond to market conditions. We will get through this. Together we stand Saskatchewan!
