Austin Black Pride, a 501 (c) 3 organization, was recreated in 2016 with queer people of color in mind. The founders of Austin Black Pride (ABP) saw that Austin was lacking in spaces and programming that catered to the unique needs of its Black LGBTQI+ community.
ABP was not created to further divide, bash, or belittle non-Black LGBTQI+ communities; but to instead preserve the culture and history, while also celebrating the evolution of Black LGBTQi+ folk.
This isn’t a once-a-year kind of pride, but instead, Austin Black Pride hosts and partners on a plethora of events throughout the year. If you are interested in working with them to put on an event, workshop, presentation, etc. please reach out to info@austinblackpride.org.

Capital City Ball: Coming to Austin Kiki Ball: Friday, June 11th from 9 to 4 am, Location: Highland Lounge (404 Colorado St, Austin, TX 78701) Born from the creativity, athleticism, and flamboyance of often disenfranchised Black and Latino gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth in New York City in the 1980s, ballroom culture has awakened into an increasingly recognizable influencer of broader pop culture and advocate for marginalized communities. A ball is an LGBTQ+ subculture in which people perform in competition – often referenced as walk – with other groups for trophies and prizes.Vogue Balls are unique in more ways than one. They provide an escape for trans women and Black/Latino MSM allowing them to creatively express their authentic identities. But they’ve also acted as an avenue for HIV-vulnerable communities by being able to link these communities to resources and care.
QTIP(Queers Talking in Private): Saturday, June 12th from 1 to 3 pm, Location Homewood Suites Downtown (78 East Ave, Austin, TX 78701) Queers Talking in Private is a dialogue that is met to be transformative and uplifting for QTBIPOC. In this respect, the Q stands for queer but we’re using it as a blanket term for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex or genderqueer. We will take a deeper look at representation and its importance when dealing with issues of institutional bias and racism, economic opportunity, and access to resources. We’ll also explore how to best position our allies, and self-care during an era of uncertainty for queer people of color.
Trap Paint and Sip: Saturday, June 12th from 7 to 9:30 pm, Location Rain on 4th (217 W 4th St, Austin, TX 78701)
